QUESTION 1: Which character would you like to be like? In what way? Why?

RESPONSE 1: I would like to be like Percy. It think that I am already somewhat like him. I have disabilities too. I also love the water. If I was the daughter of one of the Gods, I think that I would be a daughter of Poseidon. I love the water and am also very brave in most circumstances. I always stand up for my friends and try to protect them from coming to any harm.

QUESTION 2: What do you think about a particular character's actions? Was he/she right or wrong to do that?

RESPONSE 2: At one section in the book Percy does not leave like he was told to. Instead he goes back to help his friends. I think that this might not have been the best Idea, because the monsters were after him and so they might not have bothered his friend if he had fled. I also think that this was the right idea though, because he was helping his friend. I would have done the same thing in his place and think that it was very brave and selfless.

In class writing responce

Choice 2 - Pretend you are one of the characters from the book and write a journal entry in their perspective. Your entry could be about events that happened one day or over a certain time period.

Character: Percy Jackson

I have never been a person to keep a diary, but my life just got weirder, so hear I go. Well I am starting a journal about my adventures on this quest. I pretty much had to accept the quest. I was getting blamed for stealing Zeus's lightning bolt and I did not wish to stay on his bad side. Not to mention this was Grover's chance to make up for some big mistake he had made years before. How could I let Grover down. Chiron would not tell me where the lightning bolt was however, until I accepted the quest.

Once I had accepted the quest, Chiron sent me to The Oracle. The Oracle is this old mummy in the attic of the big house. The mummy wore a tie die sun dress, lots of bead necklaces and wore a headband over her black hair. The mummy was the spirit of Delphi. She spoke prophecies. When her mouth opened this weird green mist came out. I asked her what my destiny was and then the mist made my smelly father in law appear with a bunch of his buddies. Then they spoke in the voice of the Oracle:

You shall go west, and face the god who has turned.

You shall find what was stolen, and see it safely returned.

You shall be betrayed by one who calls you a friend.

And you shall fail to save what what matters most, in the end.

And that was it. When I went back down stairs, Chiron told me that the bolt was in the Underworld. Now I get to take two friends with me. One is Grover the other is Annabeth. Tomorrow we will travel to Los Angeles to find the bolt.

Book Choice

I have chosen to read The Lightning Thief by Rick Roidan.

I think that this book will be fun to read, because I have heard that is a really good book. It is also being made into a movie and I would like to read it before I see the movie. So I am looking forward to reading it.

Chapter 11

In the beginning of the chapter, what does Piggy tell Ralph to do with the conch?

In the beginning of the chapter, Piggy tells Ralph to call an assembly with the conch. (The conch has become somewhat of a talisman.)

What reason will Piggy give Jack for the return of his glasses?

“What's right is right” That is what piggy says to Jack to try to make him give back Piggy's glasses. Also that Piggy can't see without them.

What does Ralph declare their appearance will be when they approach Jack?

Originally Ralph says that they will be how they were, that they would comb there hair. Then he decides that they will go as they are.

Who challenges the boys on their approach to Castle Rock?

Roger challenges the boys on there approach to Castle Rock

When Jack appears, what has he been doing?

When Jack appears, he had just gone hunting.

What does Ralph call Jack that provokes a fight?

Ralph calls Jack a theft and that is what starts up Jack's truculence.

What happens to Samneric after the fight?
After the fight between Ralph and Jack Samn'Eric got tied up by the reluctant tribe.

What is Roger doing during Piggy’s plea for a return to decency?

Roger is throwing rocks at Ralph.

Write a STRONG BODY PARAGRAPH about who is responsible for Piggy’s death and why.

I think that Roger and Jack is responsible for Piggy's death. Roger was the one that directly killed Piggy and Jack is more of the cause. Roger purposefully rolled the rock down the hill toward Piggy. Roger caused a cessation that froze everyone else but I don't think it hit him or Jack. Jack has been making everyone more and more savage. He is a bad example for all of them. Also he killed Simon which might have made Roger see that it is okay. So Jack was the cause, but Roger was the direct killer. Then Jack, deliriously took credit for it. Which shows that he wanted it to happen.

Chapter 12: Point of veiw: Ralph

In the beginning of the chapter we find out that Samneric join Jack's tribe because they were beaten and threatened. During Jack's private feast I go and talk to Samneric who are on guard duty. They say that Roger is a horror and that he has sharpened a stick at both ends for Ralph. Sam gives me meat from the feast and then I go and hide.
In the middle of the chapter Jack begins the hunt for me. I first hid in a thicket next to Castle rock. One of the twins tells Jack were I am hiding. Jacks tribe first drops boulders on my hideout and then lights it on fire to flush me out.
Then toward the end of the chapter when I fled to the beach, I found a Naval Officer. Then Percival (the littlun at the beginning that could tell you everything about him) could not even remember his name. The Naval officer asked who was in charge. I of course told him that I was the leader and by doing so I held myself responsible for the events. The Naval Officer was disappointed, because we did not know how many of us there were. I never did get a count or a list of names. Then we all broke down in tears and went home.

Chapter 10: The conch and the Glasses

Dear Journal,
I am dead now and The Lord of the Flies was right. Everyone killed me. Even Ralph and Piggy. I tried to warn them about what the beast was, but they were doing some sort of ritual thing with Jack and his lot. They thought I was the beast and attacked me. I'll admit I must have looked scary, but to go that far... I only wanted to warn them. Anyway I am a ghost now and so I have been looking over them as they deal with what they did to me. Some are taking it like they took the death of the mulberry boy, but harder and Jack has convinced others that it was the beast disguised as me. This is what I saw.

First I visited Piggy and Ralph, hopping that they would be more Consoling.

They were so quiet, then they started denning it. You would think that it would make me feel better that they were trying to pretend like they could not do something like that, but they did do it and I know that they feel bad inside, it just does not seem like enough. I mean they killed me. Then Sam n' Eric come and say that they left early when they know that they didn't. It is infuriating. That is when I left. I could not bear it anymore.

I went to see what Jack was doing. I thought it might make me feel better about how Ralph and Piggy were acting. What ever he was doing had to be worse. It was.

He had a boy tied up and he beat him. Then he let him loose and called an assembly. The only biguns that weren't there was Ralph, Piggy and The Twins. (I was starting to feel bad for them.) Then Jack said that I was the beast not me and that I would come back and was not dead. I could not believe it. Then he plans to take some biguns and steel the others fire in the middle of the night. I hurried over and tried to warn Piggy and Ralph. They woke up and I started calling to Piggy “Piggy, Piggy, Come out Piggy.” I think he heard me but he was scared and would not come out. Then I watched as Jack, Roger and Maurice found that there was no fire and attacked them. Ralph and Eric were beating up on each other wile Jack and the other two got away with Piggy's glasses. It was horrible.

I ran to my hiding spot in the woods. The Lord of the Flied was waiting. It geared and teased me. Then I vanished.

Chapter 9: A View to a Death

1.In Simon's secret place, the flies preferred the sow's head and guts.
2.Simon decides to climb the mountainside to see the beast.
3.Simon untangles the figure on the mountainside.
4.Piggy suggests that Ralph and him go to the party.
5.Ralph and Piggy got accepted into the party when a littlun burnt piggy.
6.Jack declares that the conch does not count on this side of the island.
7.Towards the end of the party the weather gets stormy and rainy.
8.As the boys danced they chanted: “Kill the beast, Cut his throat, Spill his blood.”
9.Simon emerges from the jungle with the secret of the beast.
10.I think that Jack was responsible for killing Simon, because he got everyone rallied up and all hyper. He said “Do our dance! Come on! Dance!” He told them all to join in there skit and that is what got them all hyped up. He started the chanting: “Kill the beast, Cut his throat, Spill his blood.” He got them chanting evil words that made them hate the beast, and then they thought that Simon was the beast, because he came muttering on all fours at them. I think that it was all jacks fault, because all of the time on this island he was manipulating others to be more evil like him.
